Whiteside Picnic Celebrates Three Year Project
District Governor Visits Ely Rotary
Chilly weather could not dampen the mood as three years of dedicated fundraising came to an end with the installation of the final set of benches and tables at Whiteside Park in this spring. The club celebrated completion of the $27,000 project with a brats and burgers picnic on May 30, attended by Rotarians and Ely's Mayor.
The park project spanned the terms of three club presidents shown above, (right to left) Joe Owens 2011-12, Betsy Leustek 2009-10, and Ward Nelson 2010-11, with Ely Mayor Roger Skraba.
The Benches, Tables and Bike Racks are used by young and old nearly every day as shown in these pictures from 2011.
August 14, 2013 found our popular auction back at Amici's Event Center.
A wide assortment of items - including the kitchen sink! - tempted bidders to open their wallets, generating funds to support a great variety of community efforts and activities. Use the link above for more info.

Two Thousand Cranes in Ely
Joany and RYLA grad Karen made a trip to Ely's Washington Elementary in March, presenting Ryan's Wells Project and describing how Ely Rotary would team with the kids to turn paper cranes into a donation to provide safe water.
With rapt faces in the auditorium to busy hands and smiling concentration, the kids jumped into constructing cranes, ably assisted by Rotarians, teachers, and Junior Rotarians Janelle and Sara.
The Gavel is Passed: As her last presidential act, Joany inducted new member Pat Whalen, then turned leadership of Ely Rotary to new president, Diane Loughery. Past president Joe Owens presented a plaque to Joany in thanks for her service. The following week, conducting her first meeting as President, Diane inducted Nick Basirich, while wearing our new event aprons.
