     ANNE OELKE WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL AND SUPERINTENDENT FOR THE ELY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Club Update - 

Blueberry Booth Update: 

10 Casino Fun Night tickets sold

29 - $20 chances to win 2 tickets to Vikings/Packers game on Sunday 12/29/2024. Sales will continue for this chance. Drawing will be on 8/16 at Casino Fun Night. 

Burgers and Brats Fundraiser - Friday 8/9 from 10 - 2. Will have business deliveries available. Must preorder. We can sell our Casino Night Tickets at this booth too. 

Casino Fun Night Donations:

Whoever donates a prize, gets a free ticket in. They will be admitted at the door. We are not giving them an advance ticket. Please provide a name from the business for who will be attending. 

Wrist bands will be provided at registration. One color for over 18 and another for over 21. 

Still seeking volunteers for the event on 8/16 5:30 - 9:00. Contact Tom Moore, Lindsay Przybylski or Terri Olson. 

Speaker Highlights:  Anne Oelke

  • Anne grew up in Ely.  She has held various positions in the school district since 2004. Her entire career has been in Ely.  
  • She is married to Tony. They have two children. Her parents live in Ely as well as an older brother. 
School demographics: 
  • 521 students K - 12

  • 40% qualify for free/reduced meals
Staffing:
  • 100 employees
  • 4% are licensed teachers
  • 49% are nonlicensed staff
  • 2% administrative staff
  • 9% other licensed staff
  • 6 member school board
Other: 
  • State and local taxes provide most of the revenue. The district uses shared resources such as the Director of Special Education.

  • District offers 40 extra curricular activities
  • 13 Alworth Scholarships have been awarded  for full ride scholarships for 1 - 2 year certification programs

$21 million project funded by referendum, General Fund, grants, IRRRB, Facilities Maintenance Board

Funding provided by IRRRB, Tax Exemption Refund, IRRRB Tax Bill. 
 
The school also will receive $5.25 million from the legislature included in the tax bill. 
The school will have three years to utilize the funds. Plans are deveoping for improving baseball fields and exploring to build an athletic complex. A needs assessment is in progress.

Tom Moore won the chance at the drawing but did not win.
