Club Update:

Tom Moore - President Elect Update

  • Casino Night - Weekly meetings before regular meeting at 11:00 a.m. Grand Ely Lodge. Members are welcome to attend. 
  • Event Date: 8/16/2024 at Miners Dry. Professional dealers with additional games, prizes. Rotary is selling advanced discounted tickets available July 10. 
  • You may be assigned areas where help is needed. 
  • Accepting donations if you have skills for prizes or know someone who is willing to donate a prize. Example: Diane L. is donating her beautiful basket as a prize. 
  • If you are interested in serving on the board, let Tom know. 
  • The Club has a "Yellow Butterfly" book from last week's speaker, Bob Reichert. See Tom if you would like to borrow it.
Angela Campbell - President Update
  • Sign up for Rose Sales at Zup's. The sign up sheet is on Club Runner. We need YOU! Thank you!
  • Angela would like a weekly update on sales each Monday. Email: Akc1@frontiernet.net or call her at 218-343-1414. E-mail preferred. 
  • If you need the payment app added to your phone, talk to Todd Heiman. It is easy to use. Tip: Bring a phone charger to keep your phone charged. Most people are not carrying cash. 
  • Angela and Tom have extra tickets. 

Guest Speakers:

Jeff is the Chair of the Ely Area Community Foundation and the organization has purchased and is converting the 16,000 square-foot former MN Department of Revenue building on Miner’s Drive. It will become the Ely Area Community Hub Building.
 
Kurt Soderberg, Dave Marshall, Todd Heiman and Jeff make up the Executive Board. This project has been in the works since 2009. It includes Happy Days Learning Center, Well Being Development, Northwoods Partners and Functional Fitness in phase one. Phase two is to include a pool.
 
Jeff is a multi-term Past President of the Ely Club, serves on the District Grants Committee and is a Paul Harris Fellow.
 

Speaker Highlights:

  • Jeff, Dave, Todd and Kurt provided history and an update on the renovation of former Minnesota Revenue Building. 
  • Occumants are Happy Days Learning Center, Well Being Development, Northwoods Partners and Functional Fitness
  • One area is open and under discussion for use. The board hopes to have the space serve the Ely Community in some way.
  • Discussed the funding which included $1.2 million grant for expansion. 
  • Building update highlights: 
    • Commercial kitchen space added
    • Fire suppression
    • Space specific to tenant use
  • Grand Opening is July 31 at 4:00 the public is invited.

John Mills won the chance at the drawing but did not win. 

The pot started at $63 today. The drawing will continue to grow for the next meeting.
