The Years and Places

1947 to 1965 – Childhood and family in the St. Joseph River Watershed of Southern MI.

1965 to 1975 – College and work around the Red Cedar River Watershed of the Lansing, MI.

1976 – Work in Garrison, N.Y. in the Hudson River Watershed.

1976 to 1977 – Life on a farm on Michigan’s “Thumb” in the Black River Watershed running to

Lake Huron.

1977 to Present – Community life in Ely, MN withing the Rainy River – Headwaters

Watershed.

Work and Education

Family shoe and clothing store, paper route, farm labor, mobile home assembly line, rubber

factory, college dorm custodian, Oldsmobile auto assembly line, shoe repair shop, City of

Lansing Arboretum naturalist, nature center development for Detroit Edison, Assistant Director

of the Nature Conservancy’s Manitoga: Center of the Performing Arts, College Instructor

Vermilion Community College, Ranger Guide at Voyageur Visitor Center, Superior National

Forest, Mine Guide and Mine Interpreter at Soudan Underground Mine State Park, 

Minnesota Master Naturalist courses, Road Scholar courses, Ely Community Education

courses, Vermilion Continuing Education field trips.
